This painting is function of a series chosen Great-Grandma'south Antique Sewing Thread. I phone call information technology "great-grandma'southward" because we are now living in a modern historic period, and thread no longer comes on wooden spools. Our peachy-grandmothers would have probably used sewing thread spun on wooden spools.

The wooden spools y'all may find today are fifty+ years old and are now antiques. Today sewing thread comes on spools made of plastic; and our grandmothers, and most assuredly, our mothers would have sewn their sewing projects using thread spun on plastic spools.

I recollect playing with empty wooden spools when I was a young child in the lx-70s. Every bit I grew older, my grandmother began teaching me how to sew together doll dress and other items. However, I barely recall thread coming on anything but plastic spools. I remember raiding my grandmother's sewing box for simply the correct color of thread I needed, and I recall finding some wooden spools there.

Unfortunately, wooden spools met their demise back in the 1970s when manufacturers stopped using them to spin thread on. Information technology was purely a business decision. It had go more economical for them to employ plastic spools instead. If y'all happen to come up across a vintage sewing spool, don't throw information technology away; hang on to it. Wooden spools are antiques and do accept some value. Just how much it is worth depends on how old the spool is and its status.
